BIO

 

Sérgio Martins was born in 1980 in Lisbon, where he currently lives. He studied Social and Cultural Communication at Universidade Católica de Lisboa, and subsequently lived and studied in Rome, Italy, furthering his knowledge in the field of Art at Libera Università Maria Santissima Assunta studying Art History and Contemporary Art History in 2005. He got his MA in Social and Cultural Communication in 2006. He attended Escola superior de Arte e Design, in 2011, where he specialized in Illustration and attended the Film, Videogram and Photography program By Ana Sluga. He continued to further his knowledge and experience by attending the Creative Career Management program at Faculdade de Belas Artes da Universidade de Lisboa, where he also atended the Performance Art Program by Driewieler Collectief. He concluded his MFA - Painting at Escola Superior de Arte e Design in 2015.

 

He has had shows at XVII Biennal de Cerveira participating with a Painting Triptych entittled "Size Does(n't) really Matter", FUSO - Anual de Video Arte Internacional de Lisboa with the piece "Alphabet", MIilmo - Museu da Imagem em Movimento in Leiria with the artist book "Book of Onan", Atelier Real, (lisbon) in 2015 also with the artist book "Book of Onan" where he also participated in a book presentation and conference on "Performative Book as an Alternative Exhibition Space". Sérgio has also maitained his participation in Illustration shows like "Implosão" I & II with the pieces "Anda Vem, Porque Te Negas" and "HomoFish" at Silos Contentor Criativo where he also participated in the "Sardas Das Caldas" in 2014. He was one of the invited artists for the Printing Collective Exhibition at MArt in Lisbon with the piece "Duoglyph" the same year. In 2013 he had a show at at Palácio Quintela, Lisboa for Magnética Magazine 3rd Illustration show with the piece "Entre Pólos". In 2012 he showed at "Caldas Late Night" Art Festival as he did the year before with drawing retrospectives: "Me? Red ad Black?" and "Nihon is drawing me/I'm drawing Nihon". In the same year he was part of RABISCUITS 2011, 5th Biennal of Experimental Art in Alcobaça with the Installation piece "Drag". He also had various work published such as the Illustrations Inside Looking Out" and "Crux" in TrêsTrês Magazine and othe publications like "Le Monde Diplomatique".
